Below follows a brief introduction to the wild world of poker. If you've already got the meaning, basics and rules of poker, you can go directly to the guide. But if not, please continue reading.
Poker is an easy game. Whoever has the best hand wins, that's about it. Two pairs beats one pair. Three of a kind beats two pairs. A Straight Flush always beats everything else. These are rules that I think you know about (if not, I don't think you would even be here?).
Regular
poker or Chicago (which is more common than poker in some Swedish towns) have
a lot in common with Texas Hold'em. But it's also like a completely different
game. There's more action, more excitement and more psykology than in any
other card game (Gin Rummy included).
Poker, and card games in general, have been amusing the modern man for centuries. No one knows where and when the game was developed, but there are a number of theories. In the U.S, a game called "Cheating Game" was played in the beginning of the 19th century. Jonathan A. Green wrote down the rules to the game in 1834, but then chose to call it poker. Why? No one knows. Not even The Poker Monkey.
Texas Hold'em has developed a lot during the last year or so. From being an expert's game, it's grown into a huge sport around the world. It's now played by millions of people, both on the Internet, in casinos and at home. A few new players are bright enough to earn money on it (most of them must have read The Poker Monkey's Guide to Winning in Texas Hold'em Poker), while others spend all their money on playing, maybe stuck for life with a huge debt (they haven't read the guide, obviously).
The Poker Monkey will help you from avoiding that debt thingie. With my tips, you will be good enough to earn money at playing. But to be a winner, you have to read through the guide thouroughly, earn experience with it, and not take it as a guarantee. A lot in poker still is about luck and experience, just as much as mathematical calculations.
Enough talking for now, I'm sure you wanna go straight to the poker tables (if so, click on the links to the right). If you still aren't ready, be sure to go through our guide by clicking on the link below.
Good luck!
